The episodes were broadcast in North America on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block from June 17, 2007 to April 25, 2008. Each episode is 22 minutes. The series stars Natsushi Abe as Light Yagami, Takuya Kimura as L, Masaharu Fukuyama as Watari, Kôichi Yamadera as Soichiro Yagami, Fumihiko Tachiki as Ryuk and Kazuya Nakai as Light's father Nobusuke. The first three episodes of "Death Note" were broadcast to promote the release of the film "". The first three episodes aired on April 18, 2006 on NTV (Japan only). The series was broadcast on the North American Cartoon Network channel from June 17 through April 25, 2008. The Anime Network began airing the series on February 15, 2010., with a replay on May 3, 2010. In Japan, "Death Note" was followed up with a two-hour TV special titled "" aired on December 31, 2006. Based on an original story by Ohba and Obata, "Death Note: Relight" features a countdown from 13 to 1 that stops when a person's face is shown in the Death Note's murky background with a red figure floating around that person's head. At that time, viewers are supposed to count down in ''sync with the person whose face appears in the notebook''. The story depicts Light's father Nobusuke's investigation of Kira, and his subsequent death at the hands of L. In the United States, "Death Note" was broadcast on Cartoon Network from June 17, 2007 to April 25, 2008. The series was also rebroadcast from April 30, 2008 through January 16, 2009.
